Goldglänzend dreht on the roof garden of the gallery Ruediger Schoettle a six-foot high plant with elongated leaves. The autumn sun reflected on the metal surface and disappear at times the viewer. "Acapulco Golden" names the artist Lorena Herrera Rashid their installation, in reference to the city of Acapulco in her native Mexico .

The title sounds like exoticism, referring to the glamorous resort on the Pacific, at the famous beaches of Hollywood stars celebrated wild parties and where today the "Clavadistas" to the Cliffs of La Quebrada "in the eyes of the international jet-set from a dizzy height plunge into the waves.

" Acapulco Gold" is also the name of a cannabis plant from the area of Acapulco, the botanist, the metal plant on the roof garden certainly long been recognized as such. This exposes that which shone just golden in autumn light, its dark Down side: memories of gang violence and the ruthless drug lords are growing richer - including Acapulco is the site of the Mexican drug wars.

Thus, the first Lorena Herrera Rashid's work on these two, conflicting sides: The plant is a luxurious, made of brass icon of the hippie movement, and a monument to the political and social injustices in Mexico at the same time. Striking is the discrepancy between the aesthetically pleasing form and content of social problems denouncing the other. The viewer is in a dilemma, got something to admire beauty, but its negative context refers not admirable - quite the contrary. It is not gold that glitters.

Lorena Herrera Rashid, born in 1972 in Mexico City, lives and works in Munich. you studied sculpture with Professor Olaf Metzel at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
